Colleges and universities call for the major of prosthetic and orthopedic Engineering

A technician from Lhasa prosthetic and orthopedic center makes prosthetics in the workshop. Since the establishment of Lhasa prosthetic and Orthopedic Center in 2001 in cooperation with Belgium's international organization for the disabled, Tibet has ended the history of not being able to produce and assemble prostheses and orthoses by itself. With the strong support of domestic and international friends, local Tibetan technical workers have gradually mastered the production and assembly technology of prosthetics and orthoses, and have provided services for 701 disabled people in Tibet, including 180 patients who have been installed with artificial limbs, so that they can set foot on the journey of life again. There are 83 million disabled people in China. A large number of people put forward higher requirements for service.

In recent years, the rehabilitation equipment service industry, represented by prosthetics and orthotics, has made great progress. However, there are very few professionals with prosthetic and orthopedic skills. In this industry, there are very few employees who have received higher education. Due to the limitation of the certification threshold of "first class teacher", China is at a disadvantage in the international labor market competition in this field

This summer, 28 students majoring in prosthetic and orthopedic engineering walked out of the Capital Medical University and became the second undergraduate graduates of this major in China. Contrary to the situation that ordinary college students are hard to find jobs, their employment prospects are bright.

In the booming prosthetic and orthopedic industry in China, there are very few people with university diploma. Therefore, they have reason not to worry about their own future.

At the same time, the first medical university in this major stopped enrollment for three years, but also re started enrollment. There is a little difference between the third class and the first two. Their training program is closer to clinical practice, and the training conditions will be better.

Why did the first medical university set up the major of prosthetic and orthopedic engineering in China for the first time, why did it resume enrollment after 3 years of suspension, and why did it change its training mode? In order to find the answers to all these problems, we can not do without the development status of the prosthetic and orthopedic industry in China.

There is a lack of talents in the research and development and service fields of the physically disabled

According to Wang Xitai, director of the National Research Center for assistive devices, there are 83 million disabled people in China. A large number of people put forward higher requirements for services. In recent years, the rehabilitation equipment service industry represented by prosthetics and orthotics has made great progress. China has become the most important accessory product manufacturing country in developing countries. With the rapid development of the industry, many problems have gradually emerged, one of which is the lack of professional and technical personnel.

It is understood that in recent years, although China has increased the training of prosthetic and orthopedic professionals, and has successively trained a number of technicians, technical secondary school and junior college level technical personnel, with the progress of economy and technology, the development of welfare and security for the disabled, the shortcomings of narrow professional scope and poor foundation of technicians at the level of large and secondary school have been exposed, which can not be satisfied in actual work To meet the higher level needs of the society. In the field of research, development and service for the physically disabled, high-level talents are very scarce. Some people in the industry believe that the establishment of higher education major in prosthetic and orthopedic engineering in China is to meet the needs of the development of the cause of the disabled, and is a sign of social civilization and progress.

According to statistics, in China's disabled population, physical disability and dyskinesia accounted for 29%, that is, 2400
